There's a new laser being used
to treat a variety of skin conditions and its
been featured on a number of news programs including
CNN, The View, CBS Morning Show & many others.
The Fraxel laser has been approved by the FDA
to treat a variety of important cosmetic conditions.
It smoothes out fine lines and wrinkles, corrects
skin discoloration, and is effective in treating
acne scars. Skin damaged from sun exposure (age
& liver spots), melasma and lentigos (freckles)
on the face, neck, chest or hands are all treatable
with Fraxel.
The Fraxel laser works differently that other
laser resurfacing methods. The procedure delivers
the laser energy in thousands of tiny but deep
columns of treatment in the skin called microthermal
zones. These zones penetrate deeply into the dermis
producing collagen remodeling and reducing wrinkles.
They also resurface the uppermost portion of the
skin, resulting in the formation of new epidermal
cells with reduction or complete elimination of
uneven pigment. Further, the remaining areas of
untouched skin between these microthermal zones
allow the skin to heal much faster compared to
conventional laser skin resurfacing.

This "fractional" treatment allows the
skin to heal much faster than if the entire area
were treated at once, using the body's natural
healing process to create new, healthy tissue
to replace skin imperfections. Thus it creates
less downtime than other laser skin resurfacing
methods. Most patients resume routine activities
the next day.
The results of Fraxel®
laser treatments are immediate and progressive.
The laser stimulates the creation of new collagen
under acne scars, for example producing
positive long-term changes. Treatments take about
an hour each, and are most effective when repeated
three to five times, spaced a few weeks apart.
Topical anesthetic cream will be used to enhance
your comfort during the procedure.
Dr. Grant Stevens of Marina Plastic Surgery in
Marina Del Rey was one of the first plastic surgeons
in the Los Angeles area to begin using the Fraxel
Laser Treatment.
"Many of my patients who want to improve
themselves shun the idea of having surgery with
weeks and weeks of recovery time before they see
results," explains Dr. Stevens in a recent
press release. "What makes Fraxel® Laser
Treatments so appealing to these patients is that
they can achieve results comparable to an invasive
surgical procedure, but without the lengthy downtime
or potential risks.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also
cleared the Fraxel Laser for the treatment &
removal of melasma, also known as the mask of
pregnancy. The Fraxel Laser is also effective
in treating & removing crow's feet & dramatically
improving wrinkles around your eyes.

The innovative Fraxel SR Laser is specially designed
to alter only fractional volumes of the target
tissue. The clinical effect of this treatment
technique is to alter the appearance of aging
and sun-damaged skin. The creation of tiny microscopic
wounds results in a wound healing process and
a response to the coagulation of collagen fibers..

The Fraxel Restore laser uses a 1550 nm wavelength
to deliver pulsed, fractional laser energy for
gradual skin resurfacing in separate (usually
3-5) treatments. The new Fraxel re:store Dual
laser reduces brown spots, scarring, acne and
wrinkles. After only two to three treatments,
patients will see improvements and if aging skin
is an issue, they will appear younger. Fraxel
is a non-surgical option to a traditional face-lift.
